Artificial limbs change Sierra Leone lives

   BO, Sierra Leone (UMNS) — Juana Kamara became a victim of the civil war when
   three rebels invaded his home and mangled his right leg with a machete so
   badly that Kamara had to finish cutting off the limb. But, an artificial
   limb from the [17]United Methodist Artificial Limb Fitting Center has
   enabled Kamara once more to care for himself and his family.

What about worship for special needs?

   FRIENDSWOOD, Texas (UMNS) —[19]Friendswood United Methodist Church had
   traditional, contemporary and Hispanic worship services a year ago. Then the
   Rev. Rosemary Dubois, associate pastor of congregational care, started a
   weekly service “to enrich the spiritual lives of individuals with
   intellectual or developmental disabilities.” About 75 people with special
   needs attend “Joyful Hearts” at the church each Monday afternoon, the
   friendswoodnews.com reports.

NCC top executive plans to leave post

   CHICAGO (UMNS) ― The Rev. Michael Kinnamon, 63, will be leaving his post as
   the top executive of the [21]National Council of Churches after a four-year
   tenure because of health concerns, the NCC Governing Board reported Nov. 9.
   NCC President Peg Chemberlin and President-elect Kathryn Lohre will develop
   a proposal for transitional leadership for the executive committee to
   consider in December. Lohre [22]was installed the same day as the council’s
   26th president.

Writing letters to keep families together

   NEW YORK (UMNS) — [24]United Methodist Women is asking children and youth to
   join in a letter-writing campaign, “[25]A Wish for the Holidays: That All
   Families Be Able to Stay Together.” The campaign’s goal is to deliver more
   than 5,000 letters by Dec. 5 to national decision-makers.

Pastor honored for peacemaking work

   LINCOLN, Neb. (UMNS) — [27]Interchurch Ministries of Nebraska recently
   honored the Rev. Carol Windrum, director of Risk-taking Mission and Justice
   Ministries for the [28]Nebraska Annual (regional) Conference, for her 26
   years of peacemaking ministries. Windrum travels around the world to promote
   peace and justice and serves as a mentor to young adults.
