United Methodists give flood survivors hope

   OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (UMNS) -- As the skies opened and the rain let loose on
   Friday, April 30, 2010, the Williams family settled in for the night with no
   idea they would awaken to find their furniture and other belongings
   submerged in raw sewage in their basement and some of the water climbing

Bishops vow to uphold same-sex union ban

   LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. (UMNS) -- While acknowledging the denomination’s “deep
   disagreements” over homosexuality, the [22]United Methodist Council of
   Bishops promised to uphold church law banning same-sex unions in a letter
   released Nov. 11.

At ease, soldier

   FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (UMNS) -- What Don McCasland saw during his last military
   tour in Iraq affected him deeply. When he returned home, post-traumatic
   stress disorder tightened its grip. Emotions and traumatic memories

UMW members join rally against pipeline

   WASHINGTON (UMNS) – Members of [27]United Methodist Women were among the
   thousands who rallied recently in Lafayette Square Park and then stood
   shoulder to shoulder around the White House, calling on President Obama to
   block construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

New global education leader

   WASHINGTON (UMNS) -- Amos Nascimento, a native of Brazil and an associate
   professor of philosophy at the University of Washington, is the new special
   assistant to the general secretary for global education and new initiatives
   at the [29]Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Nascimento succeeds
   [30]Ken Yamada, who retired Oct. 31 after 45 years of service in United
   Methodist higher education.

Tennessee tornado recovery help needed

   ALCOA, Tenn. (UMNS) – Winter is on its way, and several areas of
   the [32]Holston Annual (regional) Conference in eastern Tennessee still need
   help recovering from tornado damage seven months ago.
