“Do you know that God’s love can and does achieve great things, even amid
the turmoil of today’s world?”— Dana Garrett, a CNN senior producer, recalls
a quote shared at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in State College, Pa.

Inside Jerry Sandusky’s church

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (UMNS) — If the community of State College, Pa., still is
reeling from the horrific allegations against one of the community’s most
prominent men, writes Dana Garrett, a CNN senior producer, then the
spiritual community of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church is feeling the
shock all the more intensely. Garrett tells about attending services at the
church where Jerry Sandusky and his wife have been members for 30 years and
finding a parish still ready to welcome a stranger.

UMTV: Youth share Thanksgiving meals

LOS ANGELES (UMTV) — Thanksgiving can be a lonely time for people who can’t
spend the day with family or friends. Teenagers in Los Angeles make sure
their elderly neighbors get a home-cooked meal and a visit on the special
day. Youth from Centenary United Methodist Church pull an all-nighter to
cook turkey, dressing and side dishes, and on Thanksgiving, they deliver a
hundred meals to shut-ins. “Lots of families have holiday traditions,” said
church member Darryl Ramos-Young. “This is how our church family spends
   Thanksgiving.”

Faith leaders to discuss immigration issues

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) — Hundreds of Tennessee faith leaders will come
together Nov. 30 in Nashville for discussions about faith and immigration.
Bishop William Willimon of the North Alabama Annual (regional) Conference,
the keynote speaker, will talk about the challenges for faith communities in
Alabama under HB 56, which has been called the toughest immigration law in
the United States. Clergy for Tolerance, an interfaith coalition that seeks
to encourage dialogue on federal and state immigration policy from a faith
   perspective, organized the event.

Bishops postpone trip to China

NEW YORK (UMNS) — Because of the major denominational meetings and episcopal
elections scheduled in 2012, the United Methodist Council of Bishops has
decided to postpone a planned Feb. 24-March 4 delegation to China. Instead,
an advance team from the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries will
make the trip to meet with officials of the China Christian Council,
Three-Self Patriotic Movement and Amity Foundation in preparation for a
   future delegation visit in 2013.
