"The longer a clergyperson has already served and the closer he or she

is to retirement, the less impact the change is going to have." a Cindy

Carlson, United Methodist Board of Pension and Health Benefits

>Clergy pension changes on the table

EVANSTON, Ill. (UMNS) a Active United Methodist clergy in the United

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (UMNS) a As a fourth-generation United Methodist,

Michael Watts knows that decisions made at General Conference can

affect lives for generations to come. One of those prayerful challenges

will be what to do about pensions for active clergy. aWe must balance

their security in their retirement years with providing predictable

costs for local churches and providing a sustainable program,a writes

Watts, a lay delegate from the Kentucky Annual Conference.

dozen annual conferences were at the meeting. Along with implementing

the prayer chain, the delegates affirmed the position of African United

Methodist churches on social issues and ordination.
