General Conference '96

Delegates elect four people
to serve on Judicial Council

     DENVER (UMNS) -- Of the four people elected April 24 to serve
on the United Methodist Church's Judicial Council, three are
returnees and one is a new member.

     Returning to the council are Sally AsKew, Elberton, Ga.; the
Rev. John Corry, Nashville, Tenn.; and Tom Matheny, Hammond, La.
Elected to a first term was the Rev. C. Rex Bevins, Lincoln, Nebr.

     Continuing to serve the balance of their eight-year terms are
Wesley Bailey, Winston-Salem, N.C.; Evelynn S. Caterson, Absecon,
N.J.; the Rev. Susan T. Henry-Crowe, Atlanta, Ga.; the Rev. Zan W.
Holmes Jr., Dallas; and the Rev. Theodore H. Walter, Columbia,
S.C.

     Bevins, senior pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, is
in his eighth year as chair of the Nebraska Conference council on
ministries and recently chaired the Conference Joint Review
Committee.

     AsKew, academic law librarian at the University of Georgia
School of Law, has served on the Judicial Council since 1988 and
has been its vice president since 1992.

     Corry, who holds B.A., M.Div., D.Min. and J.D. degrees, is
pastor of Patterson Memorial United Methodist Church and assistant
general counsel at United Methodist-related Meharry Medical
College.

     Matheny, a trustee of several United Methodist institutions,
was elected to the Judicial Council in 1972 and has served as its
president since 1976.

     Election of alternates was deferred.
