Duke University student receives
1996-97 academic scholarship

NASHVILLE (UMNS) -- Brandon R. Hall, a junior at Duke
University, has been awarded the 1996-97 Allan Jerome Burry
Scholarship for academic achievement and campus ministry
involvement.
Hall is the second recipient of the $500 scholarship named
for the Rev. Allan J. Burry, former assistant general secretary of
the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry's
Campus Ministry Section. Burry died in August 1990.
The scholarship recognizes a United Methodist student's
outstanding academic performance, leadership skills and
participation in the activities of a United Methodist-related
campus ministry or chaplaincy program.
Hall has a 3.97 grade point average at United Methodist-
related Duke University, Durham, N.C., and is planning a career in
computer science. He is a member of Asbury United Methodist
Church, Greeneville, Tenn.
He was nominated for the award by his campus minister, the
Rev. David O. Jenkins, because of Hall's active role in mission
work and in leadership at the Wesley Fellowship at Duke.
"Having known Allan and heard his vision for campus ministry,
I believe Brandon's life of faith is a great tribute to Allan
Burry," Jenkins said.
Hall will receive the scholarship during Student Forum Plus,
May 23-26 at Oklahoma City University.
