Finance agency elects
officers to 4-year terms
DENVER (UMNS) -- Before leaving Denver after General
Conference, newly elected members of the United Methodist Church's
finance agency met April 27 to elect officers for the four-year
period that will end at the next General Conference.
Bishop Richard C. Looney of the South Georgia Area was
elected president of the General Council on Finance and
Administration (GCFA). Bishop Donald A. Ott of the Michigan Area
became vice president, and Eunice N. Sato of Long Beach, Calif.,
was chosen secretary.
Sandra Kelley Lackore of Evanston, Ill., was re-elected
general secretary and treasurer. She was first elected to the post
at the agency's fall 1995 meeting.
In an effort to hold down costs, the council voted to hold
its meetings at locations that provide simple but adequate
accommodations whenever possible and to conduct more committee
meetings by teleconference.
The council also requested that in the future the Council of
Bishops be sensitive to the need for ethnic and gender balance
when making nominations to GCFA.
A revised ethics policy statement was adopted.
GCFA is tentatively scheduled to meet Dec. 3-6.
