Student Forum to launch
new student movement

by Kathy Gilbert*

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- The Student Forum of the United
Methodist Church will launch a new student movement when it meets
May 23-26 at Oklahoma City University.
The annual event for college and university student
leadership in United Methodist-related campus ministries, was
established in 1989.
Known as "Student Forum Plus!" the 1996 meeting's theme will
be "Living the Vision." It will mark the launch of a new United
Methodist Student Movement.
"The student movement within the United Methodist Church has
experienced a remarkable rebirth during the past decade, thanks in
part to the success of previous Student Forums," said the Rev.
Harold V. Hartley, director in the board's Campus Ministry
Section.
The United Methodist Student Movement resolution was adopted
by the Student Forum Steering Committee and will be presented to
delegates at the May event. The resolution said in part: "We name
and affirm the movement of the Holy Spirit among us, as
experienced in the many student conferences, mission projects and
organizations that have begun in the last several years."
The Student Forum is sponsored by the Campus Ministry Section
of the denomination's Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
Delegates to the Student Forum are chosen to represent each
annual conference in the United Methodist connection. Each
conference sends three voting delegates and at least three
alternates. Annual conferences also are encouraged to send a
chaplain or campus minister from a United Methodist-related campus
ministry.
Twice as many students are expected to participate in the
event as in previous years.
For registration information, contact a local campus minister
or the Campus Ministry Section, P.O.Box, 871, Nashville, TN 37202-
0871 telephone (615) 340-7415.
