ARAB AND MIDDLE EASTERN LUTHERANS

The Association of Lutherans of Arab and Middle Eastern Heritage
(ALAMEH) was approved for affiliation with the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America during the ELCA Church Council meeting
April 12-15 in Chicago. ALAMEH will relate to the ELCA's
Commission for Multicultural Ministries (CMM). CMM's steering
committee approved the association for affiliation during its
March meeting and recommended to the Church Council that CMM "be
given the necessary additional funding to assist and support" the
association. The Church Council referred that request to "the
budget development process and the Church Council's Budget and
Finance Committee." CMM also supports the ELCA's African
American, Asian, Hispanic and Native American Associations.
ALAMEH's constituting assembly was in July 1993.
