     The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation has named the Rev. James 
Foster Reese as interpreter for specialized ministry.  In this newly 
created position, Reese will work with donors, churches and institutions 
within the denomination with special emphasis on racial-ethnic 
constituencies. 
     Reese, a graduate of Knoxville College and Pittsburgh-Xenia 
Theological Seminary has served throughout the Presbyterian Church, most 
recently as director of the former Racial Ethnic Ministry Unit of the 
General Assembly.

     Jean Sindab, a leading American activist for racial and environmental 
justice, died at her home in Manhattan Jan. 8 at the age of 51.  Until her 
death, caused by cancer, she was director for environmental and economic 
justice/hunger concerns for the National Council of Churches.  Prior to 
that she was executive secretary of the World Council of Churches Programme 
to Combat Racism.  Sindab was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in New York 
City and of the Progressive National Baptist Convention.

     The Rev. Lillian D. Anthony, the General Assembly's associate for 
affirmative action and equal employment opportunity, and Ernest "Camp" 
Edwards, associate executive presbyter of  Louisville Presbytery, were 
among four recipients of the "1996 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 
Leadership Award" presented during the King legacy celebration Jan. 10 in 
Louisville. The annual award is presented by the Kentucky Human Rights 
Commission in collaboration with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 
Celebration Committee to individuals and organizations with an established 
voluntary commitment to social justice, fairness and peaceful community 
relations. The other award recipients were Louisville civil rights activist 
the Rev. Louis Coleman and Annette Turner, director of the office of 
African American Catholic Ministries for the Archdiocese of Louisville.
