96006 Nominees Sought for Higher Education Award
by Alexa Smith
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Nominations for the denomination's annual Higher Education
Award must be submitted by Jan. 15, according to the Office of Higher
Education.
Criteria for eligibility are 1) the person must be living, 2) service
must be distinguished, extensive and long-term, 3) the person must be
involved in the life of the church, 4) the service must be of national or
international significance, and 5) the person must be a Presbyterian or
have worked in behalf of the Presbyterian Church.
Letters of nomination, according to Duncan S. Ferguson of the Office
of Higher Education, must respond to the listed criteria and two additional
letters of support should be supplied. Nominations will remain in the
active nomination file for three years.
The recipient will be honored at the General Assembly -- or another
appropriate setting -- and will be given a letter and an award certificate
from the Office of Higher Education.
Ferguson said an honor roll of up to four persons is established each
year to recognize nominees not selected. Those names will be announced
each year at the General Assembly. Those nominated but not selected to be
on the honor roll will remain in the active nomination file for three
years.
A committee serving the higher education mission of the church will
make the selection.
Nominations are to be sent to Ferguson at the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.), 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202-1396.
