95429 Dates And Theme Announced For Presbyterian Women's
1997 Churchwide Gathering
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Churchwide Coordinating Team of Presbyterian Women has
announced that "Surrounded By a Cloud of Witnesses" is the theme of the
1997 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women.
The gathering will be held in Louisville July 9-13, 1997, and will
mark the first time the event has been held in a city rather than on a
college campus. More than 5,000 participants are expected to attend.
The theme is drawn from Hebrews 12:1-2a: "Therefore, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every
weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance
the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter
of our faith."
The planning team for the gathering is chaired by Pat Shields of Cut
Bank, Mont. Other planning team leaders include Sue McClew, Hanover, Ind.;
Florence Vargas, San Sebastian, Puerto Rico: Ruth Williams, Santa Barbara,
Calif.; Karen Fritsch, Bartlesville, Okla.; and Carol Hylkema, Dearborn,
Mich. Staff to the group is Gladys Strachan, coordinator for Presbyterian
Women in the National Ministries Division in Louisville.
