95426 Kearns Takes Leave of Absence as National Ministries Director
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Rev. Curtis Kearns, director of the National
Ministries Division (NMD), has been granted a six-month leave of absence in
order to complete an early retirement program for AT&T, his previous
employer.
From Dec. 18 through next summer's General Assembly, the Rev. Vernon
Broyles, NMD's associate for corporate witness, will be acting director of
the division.
When Kearns accepted his current position a year ago, the General
Assembly Council was aware that he had opted for a special early retirement
option with AT&T that would require the additional six months of service
there. The remaining time will entitle Kearns to what he calls "a modest
pension" for having completed 25 years with AT&T.
In a memorandum announcing his leave, Kearns wrote, "I have great
confidence in the staff and elected members of the division to continue the
kind of outstanding leadership that has characterized its work for the past
two years."
