     A story in the May 3 edition of "NEWS BRIEFS" about a church fire in 
Spring Valley, Calif.  (#96149), reported damage to "the altar" of the 
church.  Many readers have pointed out that Presbyterian churches do not 
have altars.  The report should have stated "chancel," not "altar."
