On May 28, the Revs. John Matthew and Judy McKay were commissioned by
the Episcopal Diocese of Idaho for ministry at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in
Hailey, Idaho. The Rt. Rev. John Stuart Thornton, bishop of the diocese,
conferred on the two Presbyterian ministers "the grace and authority of
Holy Orders as understood and required by the Episcopal Church for the
exercise of the ministry of priest."
The Rev. David Carlson, general presbyter for the presbyteries of
Boise, Kendall and Eastern Oregon, preached the sermon. Episcopal and
Presbyterian clergy joined in the laying on of hands in recognition of the
dual ordination.
McKay and Matthew are both former general presbyters of the three
presbyteries, known as the Snake River Mission Area. McKay was designated
by Thornton as parish administrator and his personal representative at
Emmanuel Church. Matthew, who retired in 1989, was commissioned as a
volunteer pastor of the church.
