95007 CHAPEL CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN IN EARLY FEBRUARY
by Alexa Smith
DALLAS--Negotiations are under way with contractors and
construction of the chapel in the Presbyterian Center in Louisville
is expected to begin "on or before" Feb. 1, chapel completion
committee chair Youngil Cho told the General Assembly Council
Executive Committee Jan. 7.
G.A. "Pat" Goff, the denomination's chief financial officer,
told the committee that "costs are not higher than cash available"
and going ahead with construction does not put other church funds
at risk.
Currently, $518,620 in cash is available and, Cho reported,
additional pledges of $115,537 are to be collected by June for a
total of $634,157.
"I am very confident we will be finished by General Assembly,"
Cho told the Presbyterian News Service.
The Assembly is slated for Cincinnati in mid-July.
Cho said the construction budget will cover the basic
structure, but does not include money for additional items, like
an organ or piano. He said the total cost is slightly over one
half million dollars because the price index has gone up in the
year since the project's $500,000 budget was set.
The executive committee authorized the executive director, in
consultation with the chapel completion committee, to negotiate any
design changes necessary to complete the chapel project within
budget and to proceed within the original authorization by the
205th General Assembly and subsequent GAC actions.
