95250 SOCIETY CREATED TO HONOR PRESBYTERIANS MAKING BEQUESTS
by Jerry L. Van Marter
CINCINNATI-- The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Fondation has established the
Boudinot Covenant Society to honor Presbyterians who have made a charitable
bequest to the church or one of its missions through the Foundation in
their wills or other estate plans.
Creation of the society was announced by President Larry Carr July 20
at the Foundation's annual dinner honoring General Assembly moderators.
Membership in the society will include all Presbyterians who include
the Presbyterian Church as part of their wills "to recognize the generosity
of those who give," Carr explained. "Members of the society will serve as
living examples of Christian stewardship for us all."
The society is named for Elias Boudinot who established the first
permanent fund held by the Foundation in the late 1790s.
Carr noted that the Presbyterian Foundation received $110 million in
gifts from wills in 1994. More than $750 million has been left to the
Presbyterian Church in wills and bequests since reunion in 1983.
The Foundation launched the Boudinot Society by enrolling all former
General Assembly moderators as charter members.
Former moderators present for the annual dinner included William P.
Thompson (1965), the Rev. Clinton Marsh (1973), Sara B. Moseley (1978), the
Rev. Charles A. Hammond (1980), Dorothy G. Barnard (1981), the Rev. Harriet
Nelson (1984), the Rev. C. Kenneth Hall (1988), Price H. Gwynn III (1990),
and the Rev. David L. Dobler (1994).
Also present were newly elected 1995 moderator Marj Carpenter and
Kathy Conner, widow of the Rev. John T. Conner (1977).
More information about the Boudinot Covenant Society is available from
