95071      WASHINGTON OFFICE COMPILES STUDY MATERIALS  
                    ON "CONTRACT WITH AMERICA"

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Washington Office has 
compiled a packet of study materials on the "Contract with America" and has 
agreed to send it to persons who request it. 
 
     The packet includes: 
 
     * a January 17 letter from General Assembly moderator the Rev. Robert 
W. Bohl to Presbyterian congregations expressing his concerns about the 
impact of the contract on poor Americans 
 
     * the text of the "Contract with America" 
 
     * a theological background paper by Jane Dempsey Douglass, a professor 
at Princeton Theological Seminary 
 
     * General Assembly policy statements that address various aspects of 
the contract 
 
     * analyses of various aspects of the contract that have previously 
appeared in other publications 
 
     * a Bible study on hunger produced by the Presbyterian Hunger Program 
 
     * a bibliography of other available resources 
 
     * suggestions for activities by congregations and other church study 
groups.
