95197 MALMBERG AND JOHNSON NAMED TO MODERATE NEW ASSEMBLY
COMMITTEE ON THE REPORT ON RECONCILIATION
by Alexa Smith
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Elder Richard Malmberg of the Presbytery of Northern
Kansas will moderate the new 51-member General Assembly Committee on the
Report on Reconciliation, according to Deborah Davies, manager of Assembly
Services in the Office of the General Assembly.
The vice-moderator is the Rev. Kathryn Johnson of Princeton
Theological Seminary, a member of Santa Barbara Presbytery, Davies said.
Stated Clerk the Rev. James E. Andrews authorized formation of the
new committee upon recommendation of the Committee on the Office of the
General Assembly during its May 31-June 2 meeting here. Moderator the Rev.
Robert W. Bohl initiated the request for the additional committee.
Commissioners will be assigned to this 18th Assembly committee by a
random and anonymous selection process defined in the standing rules. The
entire committee is expected to be in place by the end of this week, Davies
said.
Elder Betty Jane Crago of Baltimore Presbytery will be the committee's
assistant. Its resource coordinator will be the Rev. Harriet Nelson of
Redwoods Presbytery.
Crago formerly was the assistant to the Assembly's Evangelism
Committee and a replacement is currently being sought. Elder Rebecca
Stricklin of Cincinnati Presbytery replaces Malmberg as vice-moderator of
the Assembly Christian Vocation Committee.
