95166 PHEWA ANNOUNCES BUSY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
AT GENERAL ASSEMBLY
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--As in years past, the Presbyterian Health, Education and
Welfare Association (PHEWA) has announced an extensive schedule of events
in conjunction with the upcoming 207th General Assembly (1995) in
Cincinnati.
The flagship event of the social welfare ministries organization will
be a dessert gathering July 17 featuring the Rev. Sam Mann of St. Mark's
Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. Mann, a prominent African-American
urban ministry leader, was one of the founders of the recent National Gang
Summit in Kansas City.
Most of PHEWA's constituent networks will sponsor activities related
to their ministries. The Presbyterian Network on Alcohol and Other Drug
Abuse will host nightly 12 Step meetings, as well as its annual luncheon on
July 20.
The Presbyterian AIDS Network will sponsor a performance of the play,
"Exposures," July 16 at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. The
play, commissioned by the St. Louis Interfaith AIDS Ministry, draws on real
life experience to portray the effects of AIDS on its sufferers and their
loved ones.
The Urban Presbyterian Pastors' Association and Community Ministries
and Neighborhood Organizations will host an informal gathering July 16, as
will Presbyterians Affirming Reproductive Options July 17.
The Presbyterian Child Advocacy Network will host an informational
meeting on children's issues and advocacy ministries on July 18.
