95238     SOUTH AFRICAN LEADER TO RECEIVE WOMEN'S AWARD

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Brigalia Bam, general secretary of the South African 
Council of Churches (SACC), will receive a special "WomanWitness" award at 
the annual Women of Faith Awards Supper, to be held July 15 during the 
General Assembly in Cincinnati. 
 
     Bam will be present to receive the award, which is given in 
conjunction with the Presbyterian Church's "A Year With Africa" emphasis. 
 
     Bam served as director of the women's department of the Geneva-based 
World Council of Churches for 21 years, returning to South Africa in 1988 
to serve as deputy to the SACC general secretary.  She was appointed 
general secretary last year. 
 
     The Women of Faith Awards originated in 1986.  The annual presentation 
dinner is sponsored by the Women's Ministries Program Area of the National 
Ministries Division. 
 
     Women of Faith Award winners this year are Diana Lim, San Jose, 
Calif.; Jinny Miller, Mishawaka, Ind.; and the Rev. Glenda Hope, San 
Francisco.
