95234 "NEWS BRIEFS" BREAKS FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY;
ASSEMBLY NEWS AVAILABLE IN MANY WAYS
by Jerry L. Van Marter
"News Briefs" will not be published again until August 4, since the
staff of the Presbyterian News Service will be in Cincinnati covering the
207th General Assembly (1995).
News from the General Assembly will be available to Presbyterians in a
variety of ways:
* VoiceLine: Each day, beginning July 14, a two-minute summary of the
day's events will be available on VoiceLine, the Presbyterian Church's
automated telephone information service. A new report will be available
each day after 6:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time. To reach VoiceLine, call
(800) 872-3283. During times PresbyTel is staffed, a telephone consultant
will answer and transfer you to VoiceLine at your request.
* PresbyNet: The text of each VoiceLine news summary will be posted on
PresbyNet, the Presbyterian Church's computer communication network. Join
the meeting "REPORTS FROM 207TH GA PCUSA".
Every news story produced by the General Assembly newsroom staff will
be posted in the PresbyNet meeting "PRESBYNEWS".
(For a list of all General Assembly-related meetings on PresbyNet,
join "207TH GA PCUSA BRANCHES".)
* PresbyTel: Up-to-the-minute information about the General Assembly
will be available from PresbyTel, the denomination's toll-free telephone
information service. PresbyTel telephone consultants will be working
extended hours during the Assembly. The schedule is July 15, 2-9 p.m.;
July 16, 1-9 p.m.; July 17-21, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. To reach a PresbyTel
telephone consultant, call (800) 872-3283.
Two publications will offer extensive summaries of the Assembly after
it concludes:
* The General Assembly Wrap-up Edition of "THE NEWS of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)": a 12-page newspaper produced by the General
Assembly newsroom staff available during the week following the Assembly.
Every pastor will receive a copy in the mail. Additional copies are
available by calling Dorothy Best in the Office of the General Assembly at
(502) 569-5360. The cost is $.75 each or $45 for 100 copies sent to the
same address.
* Assembly in Brief: a bulletin insert-sized summary of the Assembly,
written and edited by Eva Stimson, associate editor of "Presbyterians
Today," and Midge Mack, former editor of "Communique," the newspaper of the
Synod of the Covenant. Produced by the Presbyterian Publishing
Corporation, "Assembly in Brief" is available by calling (800) 227-2872,
extension 1, option 1. The cost is $7.50 per 100 copies.
