Beulah Travis, a dedicated urban missionary for First Presbyterian
Church United of Syracuse, N.Y., since the 1940s, celebrated her 90th

afterschool and summer program for children with disabilities, neighborhood
children and selected "typical" children. The after-school program supports
two neighboring elementary schools and the summer program takes in children

"New York Times" religion reporter Gustav Niebuhr, a Presbyterian, has
been given the prestigious 1996 Religious Freedom Award by the Associated
Baptist Press (ABP). The award was established in 1994 to honor
individuals whose work promotes the principle and practice of religious
freedom, particularly in the field of journalism. In announcing the award,
ABP executive editor Greg Warner said Niebuhr "has made religion front-page
news by demonstrating the influence of faith on society and vice versa.
And he has done so with consummate fairness and uncanny insight."
