United Methodist-related university
trains hundreds for Olympics TV, radio

                 by United Methodist News Service

The Atlanta Olympics was the stimulus for a special three-
year program that trained at least 700 broadcast personnel at
United Methodist-related Clark Atlanta University.
Six hundred graduates of the school's Host Broadcast Training
Program were hired by Atlanta Olympic Broadcasting and two
international broadcasters picked up nearly 100 of the 700
students graduated July 10.
The program was conducted by the university's department of
mass media arts in cooperation with Atlanta Olympic Broadcasting
and the Panasonic Corporation. Working on equipment provided by
Panasonic, students were given on-air experience with the school's
cable television and radio stations.
Students from 40 colleges and universities throughout the
southeastern U.S. came to Clark Atlanta University for the
training that included preparation for such production tasks as
camera operators, spotters, archivists, graphics assistants and
audio assistants.
The program began in November 1993, according to Gloria P.
James, executive director of the Clark Atlanta Telecommunications
Alliance.
