96310       Arrival of International Peacemakers Nears

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--More than a dozen "International Peacemakers" are due to 
arrive here Sept. 17, just prior to their departures to presbyteries and 
congregations throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for several weeks 
of speaking engagements. 
 
     Before leaving for their speaking assignments, the group will spend a 
day of orientation together at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary 
and then a day visiting colleagues at the Presbyterian Center. 
 
     According to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, International 
Peacemakers are leaders in PC(USA) partner churches around the world who 
"visit our church to help us understand the peace and justice concerns of 
their people."  Their visits are sponsored by the Presbyterian Peacemaking 
Program in the Congregational Ministries Division. 
 
     This year, as part of the "Year with Latin Americans" emphasis of the 
denomination, six of the peacemakers are from that region of the world. 
 
     The International Peacemakers (and the dates of their visits) are 
 
     Mark Seneviratne, Sri Lanka -- a commissioned officer in the Sri 
Lankan air force who has also directed three international travel agencies 
(Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Etienne Bote Tshiek, Zaire -- a Presbyterian lay preacher and 
businessperson, official spokesperson for the Presbyterian Community of 
Kinshasa and the Presbyterian Community of Zaire (Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Maake J. Masango, South Africa -- a Presbyterian psychotherapist and 
moderator-designate of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of 
Southern Africa (Sept. 27-Oct. 21) 
 
     Doug Baker, Northern Ireland -- a PC(USA) pastor and missionary to 
Northern Ireland working with the Corrymeela Community for peace and 
reconciliation between Protestants and Catholics (March 7-26, 1997) 
 
     Boris Peterlin, Croatia -- director of the Christian Information 
Service in Zagreb, Croatia, and founder of the Christian Peace Circle (Oct. 
4-24) 
 
     Wal Duany, Sudan -- mediator and peace facilitator in southern Sudan 
and Nairobi, Kenya, with a Ph.D. in political science and environmental 
affairs from Indiana University (Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Julia Duany, Sudan -- mediator and peace facilitator in southern Sudan 
and Nairobi, Kenya, with a focus on grassroots organizing among women 
(Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Tamara Zgonjanin, Bosnia -- a Bosnian refugee studying at Bucknell 
University through the Fellowship of Reconciliation, her mother is Muslim 
and her father is Christian (Jan. 2-9, 1997) 
 
     Ivo Markovic, Bosnia-Herzegovina -- a Bosnian Franciscan priest and 
professor of practical theology and choir conductor at the Franciscan 
Seminary in Sarajevo (April 1997) 
 
     Michael Nahhal, Middle East -- coordinator of the Middle East Council 
of Churches' relief program in Iraq, a member of the Greek Orthodox Church 
of Antioch (Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Nuhad Tomeh, Middle East -- director of in-service training for Middle 
Eastern Churches, professor of practical theology and seminar leader in 
Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Egypt, Cyprus and Sudan (Sept. 20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Alina Camps, Cuba -- chosen by the Presbyterian Reformed Church in 
Cuba, teaches in the Evangelical Theological Seminary at Matanzas (Sept. 
20-Oct. 16) 
 
     Alba Luz Arrieta Cabrales, Colombia -- president of Presbyterian 
Theological and Reformed Seminary for Gran Colombia and Venezuela, teacher 
of Christian education (Sept. 20-Oct. 1) 
      
     Brenda Consuelo Ruiz, Nicaragua -- therapist for the Center for Family 
Counseling and Pastoral Care and professor of pastoral counseling at 
Baptist Theological Seminary in Managua (Sept.  20-30) 
 
     Jonas Georges, Haiti -- a PC(USA) pastor, founder and president of the 
Society for Haitian Advancement, Recognition and Education (Sept. 20-Oct. 
16) 
 
     Jos‚ G. dos Reis "Zequinha," Brazil and Peter Kemmerle -- Zequinha 
heads a project in northwest Brazil that supports peasant organizations; 
Kemmerle, who with his wife, Marˇa Arroyo, served as PC(USA) missionaries 
with Zequinha, will serve as translator (Sept. 20-Oct. 6)
