The Social Justice Program Area of the National Ministries Division in
Louisville has announced the appointment of Colleen E. Bowers of Baltimore
as interim executive director for the Presbyterian Health, Education and
Welfare Association (PHEWA) and interim associate for social welfare
organizations. Her term runs from Aug. 26, 1996, through Jan. 22, 1997.
Bowers, a pediatric nurse and Presbyterian elder, has recently
returned from a year-and-a-half dual assignment as a Fulbright scholar and
Presbyterian missionary in Pakistan. Prior to her appointment as PHEWA
interim director she was co-convener of Presbyterians Affirming
Reproductive Options, one of PHEWA's constituent networks.

An album by Presbyterian recording artist Linda McKechnie that
combines classical compositions with traditional praise choruses has hit
the top of the "Billboard" Christian instrumental charts. The album,
"Symphony of Praise II," follows McKechnie's earlier album, "Symphony of
Praise," to the number one spot on the "Billboard" chart. The earlier
album spent 60 weeks at number one.
McKechnie arranges the music for and plays piano on her albums, which
fuse ageless classics with recognizable worship medleys. McKechnie is also
a notable publisher of handbell music and leader of handbell conferences.
She is married to the Rev. David McKechnie, pastor of Grace Presbyterian
Church in Houston.
