YATESBORO, Pa.--New General Assembly stated clerk the Rev. Clifton
Kirkpatrick will be the featured speaker at the Nov. 8 officer training
event for Kiskiminetas Presbytery.
The event will also include pre-ordination and installation training
for new elders and deacons and continuing education seminars for continuing
church officers.

LOS ANGELES--"Kaleidoscope," the annual mission celebration and leadership
training event of Pacific Presbytery, celebrates its 10th anniversary Oct.
5.
This year's event, "Grow a Life Changing Faith," will be held at
Covenant Presbyterian Church in Westchester. Keynote speaker is Elizabeth
Cadwell, professor of Christian education at McCormick Theological Seminary
in Chicago.
Workshops will be offered on such topics as awareness of childhood
traumas, keeping God in marriages, youth ministry, teacher training,
Christian education curricula, confirmation and commissioning, spiritual
growth and learnings from Third World Christians.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Rev. Howard Rice, former General Assembly moderator
and chaplain for San Francisco Theological Seminary, will lead a clergy
retreat for Lake Michigan Presbytery Nov. 4-5 at the presbytery's Camp
Geneva.
The theme of the retreat is "Attending to the Roots." The personal,
small-group and corporate body spiritual disciplines that nurture Christian
faith and inspire relationships and service will be explored.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--During its June 6-7 meeting, the Synod of South
Atlantic approved a major redefinition of its role and scope that shifts
programmatic responsibility to its presbyteries.
The decision calls for the synod to become an essentially
administrative body. The synod will continue to participate in new church
development and redevelopment and will continue to focus on racial-ethnic
ministry. In addition, it will also retain its regional audiovisual
resource center, which operates in partnership with Charleston-Atlantic
Presbytery.
Overall, the changes resulted in a cut of the synod budget from $2
million to just under $920,000.

PETOSKEY, Mich.--Mackinac Presbytery has joined with Lutherans, Methodists,
Episcopalians and Roman Catholics in northern Michigan to launch a prison
ministry in the area.
A steering committee has been formed to develop ministry to inmates,
prison staff persons and families of inmates.

PHOENIX, Ariz.--Jane Odell has been called by the Synod of the Southwest to
be its interim synod executive. She begins her new work Oct. 1.
Since 1986 Odell has been associate executive presbyter for San
Gabriel Presbytery. She temporarily fills the post left vacant by the
departure of the Rev. Gary Skinner to be synod executive for the Synod of
Alaska-Northwest.
