Hurricane relief;
how you can help
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is
responding to areas devastated by Hurricane Fran and related
flooding. The following conferences have been severely affected:
North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Central Pennsylvania and
Baltimore-Washington.
Hurricane Hortense struck Puerto Rico with some portions of
the island receiving 11-18 inches of rain. There is flooding
across the entire island and power is out in most areas.
To volunteer or send materials to North Carolina, call (800)
454-7780 weekdays, beginning Sept. 11.
Until other conference disaster lines are established,
volunteers for other areas are being coordinated through the
Volunteer Line (800) 918-3100.
To learn what emergency and recovery supplies are needed or
to send materials, donors may call the UMCOR Depot in Baldwin,
La., at (800) 814-8765 or UMCOR headquarters (800) 554-8583.
Financial contributions for relief and recovery may be sent
through local churches, designated Hurricanes '96, Advance No.
982410-0. An emergency grant has been made to North Carolina
Annual Conference and more will be needed.
