Arizona church calls the nation
to pray for state, national officials
by United Methodist News Service*
A United Methodist congregation in Sun City, Ariz., has
called for the nation's people to pray for national and state
officials during 12 days around the Nov. 5 election.
Under the leadership of the Rev. William G. Griffith, the
public issues committee of Sun City's Willowbrook United Methodist
Church urges its fellow citizens take time between Oct. 26 and
Nov.6 to pray for elected federal officials and government
employees each morning when the flag is raised.
During the same period, as the flag is lowered each evening,
the church leaders urge prayer for state officials and employees.
The call to prayer seeks to unite all faiths in a common act
of support for the United States of America. The major candidates
for office have been asked to support Willowbrook Church's call to
prayer also.
"Anyone who gets a paycheck from the government needs the
prayer support of the citizenry," said Griffith.
Often people feel helpless to deal with the nation's problems
or those of the state, said the Rev. Linda De Atley, associate
pastor of the church. "As people of faith, we can trust in our
future by putting it in God's hands," she said.
