awards merit scholarships

     NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- Three college students -- two from
Oklahoma and one from Illinois -- are recipients of the United
Methodist Publishing House's 1996-97 merit scholarships for racial
and ethnic students.
     May Kim, a business marketing major at the University of
Oklahoma will receive a $3,000 scholarship and Aaron Kilgore, a
marketing and advertising major at Western Illinois University will
receive a $2,000 academic scholarship for the academic year.
     The 1995-96 scholarship of Clinton Purtell, a junior at
Oklahoma City University, was renewed for the coming academic year.
     Awarded by the Publishing House since 1988 to racial and
ethnic students in the United Methodist Church, the scholarships
encourage undergraduate students attending United Methodist-related
schools to pursue lay careers in the United Methodist Church
particularly at the United Methodist Publishing House.
