TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY
Texas Lutheran College became Texas Lutheran University on Aug.
28 when the institution began its 106th academic year in Seguin,
Texas. President Jon N. Moline said "college" has become to mean
a public, two-year institution in the region. "University"
better describes the "selective, private, four-year undergraduate
education which Texas Lutheran offers," he said. There are 75
institutions in Texas that call themselves colleges. Twelve are
four-year, baccalaureate institutions. "For years, Texas
Lutheran has had a reputation for excellence, as confirmed by our
U.S. News and World Report ranking as one of the outstanding
regional liberal arts colleges and universities in the West,"
said Moline. He stressed that changing the name will not change
the institution's commitment to serve undergraduate students
exclusively. It plans also to retain its 14-to-1 student-to-
faculty ratio. Texas Lutheran is one of the 28 colleges and
universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
