96388 Error Discovered in Book of Proposed Amendments
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--What a difference a word makes.
The Office of the General Assembly has reported a word missing on page
four, paragraph four of the "Proposed Amendments to the Constitution of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)." The booklet of proposed amendments,
approved by the 1996 General Assembly and sent to the presbyteries for
their affirmative or negative votes, has already been widely distributed.
The mistaken sentence incorrectly reads: "The church must be an
exclusive, condemning community; it must be a community of welcome and
love."
The word "not" is missing. The sentence should read: "The church must
not be an exclusive, condemning community; it must be a community of
welcome and love."
