NEW CONCORDE, Ohio--Muskingum College president Samuel W. Speck announced
recently that the late Eloise Barnes Cole, a 1933 Muskingum College
graduate, and her husband, Arthur G. Cole, have established a charitable
trust to endow a professional chair in American history at Muskingum.
Named the Arthur G. and Eloise Barnes Cole Chair of American History, the
commitment recognizes the importance of excellence in teaching and,
according to Speck, "helps to ensure that the finest resources support the
teaching of American history at Muskingum." Given current rates of growth,
it is expected that the charitable trust will ultimately provide a
million-dollar endowment, the earnings from which will be used to fund the
chair.
