by Jerry L. Van Marter
SPOKANE, Wash.--On Sept. 26 the Presbytery of the Inland Northwest
commissioned three new Commissioned Lay Pastors. The presbytery has one of
the most extensive CLP programs in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
Wanda Rudolph was commissioned to the Lapwai Presbyterian Church, a
26-member congregation of mostly Caucasion retired persons on the Nez Perce
reservation. Elmer and Eleanor Inich were commissioned to Northport
Presbyterian Church, a 25-member congregation in the wheat field country of
eastern Washington.
HATTIESBURG, Miss.--Mississippi Presbytery is planning a mission fair April
19, 1997, at Westminster Presbyterian Church here.
The theme of the fair will be "A Year with Latin Americans," which is
also the mission emphasis theme of the General Assembly. Featured speakers
will be the Rev. Frank and Hope Arnold, Presbyterian missionaries to
Brazil.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas--Mission Presbytery is offering a program called Faith
Discovery Weekend to its congregations.
The program, which typically runs from Friday evening through Sunday
morning, is designed to awaken the faith of a congregation, create a
renewal of fellowship within the congregation, provide a positive model for
faith sharing and offer guidance in organizing a plan for congregational
outreach.
PANORAMA CITY, Calif.--Despite seven years of sustained effort, the
Presbytery of San Fernando has concluded that "circumstances have prevented
the Santa Clarita Presbyterian Church (a new church development of the
presbytery) from meeting success."
So, on Sept. 24, the presbytery voted to dissolve the congregation.
The final worship service was held Oct. 18.
