LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Worldwide Ministries Division and the Presbyterian
Church's Department of History are co-sponsoring a mission history project
designed to document Presbyterian mission activities around the world in
the 20th century.
The goal of the project, as authorized by the General Assembly Council
in September 1995, is "to enable the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to more
effectively discover, identify, secure, preserve and coordinate
documentation related to the Christian movement in those areas where it is
engaged in mission, in order that the PC(USA), its partner churches and
related ecumenical agencies may engage in research and writing which will
guide mission policy in the coming century."
A Task Force for Missionary Documentation has been established to
assess the current status of documentation of Presbyterian mission
activities around the world, to develop a system for the ongoing collection
of mission activity documentation, to coordinate the compilation of mission
activity documentation and to oversee the conversion of mission activity
documentation into a written history.
The task force is asking that those persons in the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) and its partner churches who are currently engaged in the
documentation, writing and publication of mission history contact the Rev.
Robert Abrams in the Worldwide Ministries Division, 100 Witherspoon Street,
Room 3227, Louisville, KY 40202-1396. His e-mail address is
