     ST. LOUIS (DNS) -- In response to changing social
service needs and to reduce the duplication of effort, the
health and social services division of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ) consolidated two departments. 

     The National Benevolent Association recently merged the
departments of service unit operations and managed unit
operations. The move eliminates the service unit operations
department and reassigns most of its functions to other
departments, according to NBA President Cindy Dougherty.

     In the course of the administrative changes, Frank
Hungerford was named vice president for regional management.
In the new position he will supervise the field coordinators
and regional operations managers, a responsibility most
recently shared by two vice presidents. Hungerford formerly
served as vice president for managed units.

     Richard Savage will assume the new position of NBA
representative, working directly with major donors and
corporations. Savage has been vice president for service
unit operations for the past two years. He also directed
NBA's $11 million endowment campaign in 1987.

     The staffing changes specifically address some
duplication of efforts and the allocation of resources
toward new directions for the association, said NBA
officials.
