United Methodist chaplain promoted
to Air Force Brigadier General

     Hiram L. Jones, command chaplain of Air Combat Command and
ordained elder in The United Methodist Church, has been promoted
to the rank of Air Force Brigadier General. 
     Jones will become the deputy chief of the Air Force Chaplain
Service effective June 1997. He will be stationed at Bolling Air
Force Base, Washington, D.C.
     A member of the Texas Annual Conference, Jones is endorsed by
the Section of Chaplains and Related Ministries, Division of
Ordained Ministry, General Board of Higher Education and Ministry,
The United Methodist Church.
     He received a master of divinity degree from Perkins School
of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He is from
Madisonville, Texas.
     Jones has served 25 years in the Air Force and has received
the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with seven oak
leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Outstanding
Unit Citation with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Excellence
Award with one oak leaf cluster, and the American Defense Ribbon.
     He and his wife Annette have one daughter, Jennifer.
