Some Northwest churches
report flood, storm damage

                 by United Methodist News Service

As of Jan. 6, various amounts of damage to United Methodist
property as a result of the Northwest storms and flooding had been
reported.
Bruce Galvin, assistant treasurer for the Pacific Northwest
Annual (regional) Conference, said six Seattle area congregations
reported standing water in their church buildings, including Crown
Hill United Methodist, which, despite its namesake location, was
the victim of sewer backups.
St. Andrew's church in nearby Lacey reported a sagging roof
on its educational wing, and the Rockford church and parsonage in
the Spokane District suffered water damage.
In Oregon, the United Methodist church in Ashland, along with
the rest of the community, is without water and sewage service.
"They should be back on line in a week or so," said the Rev. David
Kinman, disaster coordinator for the Oregon-Idaho Conference.
He expects United Methodists will work both directly and
ecumenically with recovery efforts in Ashland, where mobile home
parks were destroyed.
In the California-Nevada Conference, flooding occurred at the
Point Pleasant, Calif., church, along with some minor flooding at
First United Methodist Church in Reno, Nev.
