Sixth international evangelism seminar
for world Methodist bodies set for June
by United Methodist News Service
The world will once again visit Atlanta this summer, not to
participate in Olympic events but to witness and celebrate the
work and mission of Methodism.
Wesleyan leaders from more than 60 nations will come to Emory
University June 23-July 3 for the Sixth International Evangelism
Seminar and to participate in the 15th anniversary of the World
Methodist Evangelism Institute. The international seminar is held
every three years at sites around the world.
The institute, headquartered at Emory University, is a joint
ministry of the World Methodist Council and Candler School of
Theology and links 73 worldwide Methodist and Wesleyan bodies in
more than 100 countries of the world. It seeks to multiply people
who can inspire others; train leaders who are able to articulate
the Methodist/Wesleyan faith; develop resources worldwide; and
help Methodism once again become a major movement.
More than 200 are expected to participate in the Atlanta
seminars and workshops under the theme "Jesus Christ: The Heart
and Soul of Evangelism: Communicating the Gospel Today."
Participants will also visit as witnesses and preachers in Sunday
schools and pulpits of Atlanta churches during a Missions Weekend
June 28-29.
The faculty will include the Rev. Joe Hale, general secretary
of the World Methodist Council, Lake Junaluska, N.C.; Bishop
Nathaniel Linsey of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and
North American Regional Evangelism Secretary of the World
Methodist Council; the Rev. Maxie Dunnam, president of Asbury
Theological Seminary and chairman of the World Methodist Council
Evangelism Committee; the Rev. R. Kevin LaGree, dean of Candler
School of Theology at Emory University; the Rev. H. Eddie Fox,
Nashville, Tenn., director of World Evangelism of the World
Methodist Council; the Rev. George E. Morris, pastor of First
United Methodist Church, Peoria, Ill.
Institute leaders have issued an appeal for money to enable
the participation of international delegates. To contribute or
obtain more information about the institute, contact Winston
Worrell, World Methodist Evangelism Institute, Candler School of
Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga. 30322; telephone (404)
