Hot dog jingle nets United Methodist
toddler Super Bowl commercial, appearance
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- Andrew Thompson, the three-year
old United Methodist from Smyrna, Tenn., is preparing to wow the
world when his rendition of the popular Oscar Mayer Wiener song is
aired in a television commercial during the Super Bowl Jan. 26.
Thompson, a member of Elders Chapel United Methodist Church
beat out 65,000 children in a nationwide Oscar Mayer Wiener talent
contest last November. He will attend the championship game in New
Orleans and be featured in pre-game activities along with other
well-known personalities.
His voice, usually heard by the church congregation as he
sings in the choir and plays the tambourine, will now be heard by
millions of Super Bowl viewers in a 20-second television spot at
halftime.
Oscar Mayer officials said Thompson's magnetic personality
made the taping of the song for the halftime commercial "a hit."
Thompson's emerging stardom and commercial success has led to
the employment of a Beverly Hills agent and forced his mother to
quit her job to keep pace with his schedule. The toddler has
appeared on local radio and television, in schools, as well in
national venues. He now carries a business card that describes him
as "A Star is Born." He also has signed a contract for more Oscar
Mayer appearances.
