97010 Global Mission Conference Slated Next November
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--"Congregations in Global Mission: New Models for a New
Century," a conference for Presbyterians whose congregations are involved
in mission on a world level and for those who are looking to be more
involved in global mission, has been planned for Nov. 8-11, 1997, in St.
Louis.
Sponsored by the Worldwide Ministries Division (WMD) in Louisville,
the conference will include worship, story-telling, exploration of the
theology of "doing mission" and the sharing of experiences by conference
participants whose congregations have been directly involved in global
mission.
The Rev. Dana Jones, pastor of Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church in
Lexington, Ky., and a member of the conference planning team, said the
purpose of the conference is to "bring direct congregational mission
initiatives and national church policy together." He said the conference
agenda "is timely and crucial to the future."
Keynote speakers include the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, stated clerk of
the General Assembly and former WMD director; the Rev. Sherron George,
professor of mission and evangelism at Austin Presbyterian Theological
Seminary and former Presbyterian missionary in Brazil for 23 years; and the
Rev. Maitland Evans, executive secretary of the United Church of Jamaica
and the Cayman Islands.
Persons seeking more information about the conference should call the
Rev. Tricia Lloyd-Sidle, WMD coordinator for global awareness and
involvement, at (502) 569-5260, fax her at (502) 569-8039, or e-mail
