97025 Board of Pensions Honored for Family-friendly
Workplace Policies

Director of Communications, the Board of Pensions
PHILADELPHIA--Family-friendly workplace policies have made the Board of
Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) a winner.
On Dec. 3, 1996, the Delaware Valley Child Care Council and the
Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce presented the board with an award
as "Best Organization for Working Employees" in the Philadelphia area. The
board was cited for offering job-sharing, a work-at-home program,
telecommuting and flextime. In addition, the board offers other benefits
that support families, such as subsidies for adoptions.
Linda E. Przyby, vice president for human resources, said that the
board's support of working parents is right in line with the policies of
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) at large. "The church supports working
families through its practices and policies and has generally been ahead of
its time in that respect," she said, pointing out that the church
introduced parental leave for its workers long before the Family Medical
Leave Act was passed by Congress.
Przyby, who with senior vice president Frank Maloney accepted the
award on the board's behalf, said that the Presbyterian Church feels it has
a moral and ethical responsibility as an employer. "The church believes it
should be a leader in the business community and be a role model for other
businesses to follow. I'm proud to be part of an organization that takes
care of its workers because it's the just and socially responsible thing to
do," she said.
