LUTHERANS RESPOND TO NORTHWEST FLOODING

An emergency grant of $15,000 has been issued to Lutheran Social
Services of Northern California and Nevada in response to a series of
winter storms and flooding in northern California, Idaho and northern
Nevada. "In the Marysville and Yuba cities of Calif., nearly 100,000
people have had to leave their homes," reports the Rev. Gilbert B. Furst,
associate director for Lutheran Disaster Response. "Up to 2,000 homes
have been affected in Reno, Nev.," he said. Lutheran Social Services of
Washington and Idaho has responded to flood devastation in small
communities near Boise, Idaho. "The Boise office is providing counseling
services at the request of the Red Cross," said Furst. Emergency grants
have also been made to Lutheran Social Services of Washington and
Idaho.
