Several people represent
church in Israel/Palestine

               by United Methodist News Service

The United Methodist Church currently has several
representatives in Israel/Palestine.
The Rev. Alex Awad, a Palestinian-American, and his wife,
Brenda, are assigned to Bethlehem Bible College by the United
Methodist Board of Global Ministries. He also is pastor of a small
but growing congregation at East Jerusalem Baptist Church.
A new board missionary, the Rev. Sandra K. Olewine, began her
assignment as United Methodist liaison to the Middle East Council
of Churches office in Jerusalem in December.
Before that assignment, Olewine served as associate pastor of
Holman United Methodist Church in Los Angeles.
According to Peggy Hutchison, a board executive, Olewine has
experience in conflict resolution and working with multi-cultural
communities and is active in peace, justice and advocacy work.
The Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA), an
unofficial church group, has commissioned Dianne Roe of Corning,
N.Y., to represent it on the Christian Peacemakers Team in Hebron.
Roe returned to Hebron Jan. 16 after a three-and-a-half month
leave.
Christian Peacemakers Team is an initiative among Mennonite
and Church of the Brethren congregations and Friends Meetings that
supports efforts to reduce violence around the world.
