Amendment Voting Pattern Holds: Affirmative Votes
Lead for "COCU," Lag for "Fidelity and Chastity"

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--With 15 percent of the 171 presbyteries reporting, voting
on Amendment B -- the so-called "fidelity and chastity" amendment -- and
Amendment C (the Consultation on Church Union amendment) is still very
close.

According to the official count maintained by the Office of the
General Assembly (OGA), as of Jan. 28 the Amendment B count is 11
presbyteries in the affirmative and 15 presbyteries in the negative. On
Amendment C, the official tally is 14 presbyteries in the affirmative and 9
in the negative.

A majority of the 171 presbyteries -- 86 -- must vote in the
affirmative for the amendments to be incorporated into the "Book of Order."

To ensure complete accuracy, the Presbyterian News Service will only
report those presbytery votes that have been formally filed with OGA.
