Financial Aid Offered for Churchwide Gathering
of Presbyerian Women
by Kathy Copas
LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Presbyterian pastors, Christian educators, and
inquirers/candidates for ministry who are serving congregations of 300
members or less may be eligible for some special financial help to attend
the 1997 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women. The gathering is
scheduled for July 9-13 in Louisville.
According to Pat Shields of Cut Bank, Montana, chair of the Churchwide
Gathering Planning Team, the Financial Aid for Studies Office in the
National Ministries Division has agreed to provide a total of up to $10,000
in continuing education funds to help those who need a financial boost to
attend the Gathering.
"This expression of support emphasizes what Presbyterian Women
have known all along---that one of the Churchwide Gathering's greatest
strengths is in nurturing faith development and acting as a real center for
strong educational and spiritual support for ministry. We're delighted that
this money will help ministers and other congregational leaders who may not
otherwise have been able to attend," Shields said.
Shields hopes the money will allow approximately 20-25 persons to have
some or all of their Gathering expenses met.
Those interested in applying for assistance need to do so by
March 15, 1997. For more information or an application form, contact the
office of Presbyterian Women, 100 Witherspoon Street, Louisville, KY
40202-1396; phone (502) 569-5844.
