Credit Card Donations for Disaster Assistance to Be Tried

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Following the lead of many other nonprofit organizations,
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has announced that persons wishing
to use a credit card to make contributions to disaster relief efforts of
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) may now do so.

The new payment option, okayed by the Central Receiving Service of the
Corporate and Administrative Services office, will be handled by PresbyTel,
the denomination's toll-free telephone information service, on a trial
basis between now and June. Barry Creech, coordinator for churchwide
communication services, said the credit card arrangement will be reviewed
at the end of the trial period.

The routine is familiar: Persons wishing to contribute to disaster
relief by using their credit card may call PresbyTel at 1-800-UP2DATE
(872-3283). They will need to give the PresbyTel consultant who answers
the phone their name (as it appears on the credit card), address, telephone
number, credit card number and the expiration date on the card, as well as
the specific relief project they wish to support.

Only VISA and MasterCard will be accepted.
