Wyoming retreat center offers contemplative outreach program
(ENS) The Alta Retreat Center is located at the foothills of the
Grand Teton Mountains in Alta Wyoming. founded by Bishop John
Stuart Thornton of Idaho, the Alta retreat Center provides "a place of
prayer, silence and renewal for pilgrims on the spiritual journey,"
according to retreat director Rev. Sandra Casey-Martus. Casey-Martus
directs the centering prayer retreat programs at Alta and is a member of
the National Faculty for Contemplative Outreach. Contemplative
Outreach is a national ecumenical network of lay and clergy committed
to the teaching of centering prayer popularized by the Rev. Thomas
Keating of St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado.
Episcopalians who have learned the method of centering prayer are
cordially invited to further their practice by attending intensive and post-
intensive retreats in Alta. For more information, call (307) 353-8100.

Bishop of Jerusalem urges pilgrims to experience `living stones'
(ENS) Bishop Coadjutor Riah Abu El-Assal recently called for 100
U.S. dioceses to send 20 pilgrims each to the Diocese of Jerusalem in the
year 2000. "Come on pilgrimage and meet the living stones of the bible,"
Riah urged. "Pilgrimage 2000 goes beyond the ordinary idea of a tour
and gives you the opportunity to become partners with us in the Church's
ministry to the people of our homeland," he said. "We challenge you to
bring your people to Jerusalem and stand beside us in our witness." In
addition to visiting historic sites of the Holy Land, Pilgrimage 2000
offers travelers the opportunity to assist with some of the work of the
diocese. Visitors may spend a day working at a West Bank orphanage or
at one of the hospitals or schools sponsored by the Anglican Communion
and thereby come in contact with the Christian Palestinian people, the
"living stones" of the Holy Land. For information on how to participate
in a Pilgrimage 2000 tour, contact Worldwide Pilgrimage Ministries at
