          Del Byler, Former PC(USA) Treasury Head, Dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Delmar R. (Del) Byler, 67, former president of the 
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Central Treasury Corporation, died May 2.  He 
had been suffering with cancer since 1994. 
 
     Byler, a native of Newton, Kan., served three denominations as a 
financial officer -- the Presbyterians, the United Methodists and the 
Mennonites -- in a career that spanned some 40 years.  He also served as a 
missionary in Hong Kong from 1961 to 1968. 
 
     Byler was managing director of the Financial Services Division of the 
Support Agency of the former United Presbyterian Church in the United 
States of America in New York at the time of Presbyterian reunion in 1983. 
He was named acting treasurer for the PC(USA) in October of 1986 and 
elected president of the Central Treasury Corporation in January of the 
following year.  He held that post until his retirement in 1991. 
 
     Byler is survived by his wife, Karen, and three children -- Joseph, 
John and Jeanne.  Memorial services have been scheduled for May 7 at Harvey 
Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church in Louisville.
