United Methodist-related MacMurray
College names 14th president
by United Methodist News Service
The Rev. Lawrence D. Bryan, a Michigan resident whose career
has spanned 24 years of college teaching and administration, has
been named president of United Methodist-related MacMurray
College, Jacksonville, Ill.
Bryan, the former president and professor of religion at
Kalamazoo (Mich.) College, will become the 14th president of the
150-year-old liberal arts college this summer. He succeeds Edward
J. Mitchell, who is leaving after nearly 11 years as president.
A clergy member of East Ohio Annual Conference, Bryan
received a bachelor's degree from Muskingum (Ohio) College and a
master of divinity from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston,
Ill. He earned a doctorate from Northwestern University.
Bryan and his wife Marjorie have two children -- Mark, a
graduate student and Alexa, a college sophomore.
